White House goes dark as protests erupt over the world

Following the death of George Floyd at the hand of a policeman, protests have broken up around the US and the world in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

In Washington DC, protestors gathered outside the White House as the building went dark. Trump took to Twitter to denounce the protestors, calling them “anarchists” and labelling them as ANTIFA terrorists, a loosely affiliated group of far-left and anti-fascism activists.

In New York City, protestors clashed with police as fires broke out.

In Minneapolis, where Floyd was killed and protests first began, a tanker truck drove into thousands of protestors marching on a highway.

In New Zealand, thousands turned up in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington to protest the killing of George Floyd and demand Jacinda Ardern to publicly condemn it.

Protests also took place in the UK, Europe and Canada as people marched in solidarity with the Black Lives Movement.
