After several delays, the Costco New Zealand opening date has been revealed.
The Costco store in Auckland’s Westgate is officially opening on Wednesday, 28 September.
Costco New Zealand officially begun trading in April 2022, after opening its petrol station in Auckland’s Westgate. Motorists were already queuing to get their discounted fuel, currently priced at $2.49 for unleaded 91.
The store was due to open in August 2022 but was delayed due to construction and building approvals. On 25 August, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was given a tour of the megastore.
The multi-billion-dollar global retailer announced in June 2019 they would be opening their first-ever Costco in New Zealand.
In late March 2022, customers were seen queuing for hours outside the Costco New Zealand store in Westgate, Auckland to get their hands on a membership. Costco’s discount products and fuel are only available to members, who pay an annual fee of $60.
Costco memberships can be purchased online or from a temporary office at 15 Kakano Road Westgate, Auckland until the store opens.
What can you expect from Costco New Zealand?
In early 2021, the company began recruiting staff members, advertising positions on their website.
Auckland’s Westgate mall is the location for Costco New Zealand’s $100m mega store. The store covers three floors, with a petrol station attached.
Customers can expect Costco’s full offering, including groceries, homewares, liquor, optometrist and food court.
Costco managing director Patrick Noone says the company is excited for the job opportunities and economic growth the new opening will offer for Auckland.
“Costco is very excited to open our first warehouse in New Zealand and to be a part of this community. We feel Westgate is the perfect location for us,” says Noone.
