She’s the American actress rumoured to have stolen Prince Harry’s heart. And now Meghan Markle has further fuelled speculation she’s secretly dating the royal after she shared a picture of herself wearing a bracelet identical to one he owns.
The 35-year-old star of US legal drama Suits posted a picture of herself on Instagram, taken during a trip to the ultra-exclusive Soho Farmhouse private members club in Oxfordshire last week. The blue beaded jewellery can be seen on her wrist.
The accessory bears a striking resemblance to bracelets worn by the 32-year-old prince. It’s reported Harry may have picked it up on one of his trips to Africa.
It can also be seen in other pictures on her social media feed dating back several weeks, including one where she is holding a book and a passport.
Harry is said to be besotted with Markle and has been conducting a low-key transatlantic romance for several months.
He is believed to have met her in Canada while promoting his Invictus Games for disabled service personnel. She is from Los Angeles but lives in Toronto, where Suits is filmed. The games are due to be held in Toronto next year.
Markle is understood to have made several low-key visits to see Harry and meet Prince William and Kate.
She was spotted in the Royal box at Wimbledon in June and July, cheering her friend Serena Williams, and posted a picture of her visiting Buckingham Palace on July 5.
Kensington Palace declined to comment on the “private matter.”
Despite being linked to a string of women, Harry hasn’t had a serious girlfriend in several years.
A source told UK media: “He’s happier than he’s been for many years.
“They are taking each week as it comes and just enjoying each other’s company, but it’s fair to say that they love seeing each other and there’s a definite chemistry between them.”
Merkle was married to movie producer Trevor Engelson but they split in 2013. She was also linked to golfer Rory McIlroy in 2014.
Her last boyfriend was a top Toronto chef. She is now thought to live with just her two rescue dogs Bogart and Guy.
Unlike many of Harry’s other conquests, Markle is remarkably open with her private life — she’s posted more than 2000 times on Instagram, where she has a million followers. She has her own blogging website The Tig, named after her favourite Italian wine, Tignanello.
On Instagram, she’s fond of posting shots of herself beaming in glamorous locations — holidays in the past year include Italy’s Amalfi coast, Ibiza and Tulum in Mexico — and rather twee lifestyle mantras.
There are endless pictures of her giggling with groups of female friends over coffee or wine — she has an enormous network of friends all over the world.
On her blog, subjects range from how to balance acting and humanitarian work to tips on New York boutiques and recipes for spelt biscuits. She’s also not afraid of expressing political opinions: she is clearly anti-Brexit, posting pictures of Remain placards during her last visit to London.
Like her Suits character, Rachel Zane, Meghan is of mixed race. Her mother is an African-American former travel agent turned-yoga instructor (complete with dreadlocks and a nose stud), while her father is a white retired director of photography who worked on hit US sitcom Married With Children.
Her great-great-great grandfather was a slave who took the name Wisdom when slavery was abolished.
Meghan writes of her childhood and her parents’ marriage on her website: “I like to think he was drawn to her sweet eyes and her Afro, plus their shared love of antiques,” she writes. “Whatever it was, they married and had me.”
