What To Pack For A Cruise: Your Essential Guide
All aboard! Look fabulous on your cruise with these mix and match pieces that make packing a breeze.

Packing for a cruise can feel a little daunting your first time. While the certainty that you can just pick up anything you forget at a local store is reassuring usually while travelling, that can be a little trickier when you have a number of days at sea on the schedule.

Rest assured that cruise lines will generally have solutions for a number of things you may forget, but it’s worth planning ahead with good organisation to avoid the challenge.

The first thing to do is peruse any packing lists or clothing advice provided by your cruise company, regarding the destinations you will visit, as well as the weather at sea. This will also generally reveal dress codes for dining and entertainment that are useful to guide your choices.

L-R: Isabel Marant top, Rolex Watch; Tove shorts; Louis Vuitton scarf; Nili Lotan Sweater; Aje dress; Kirstin Ash earrings; Ulla Johnson dress; SOPHIE hat; Alemais dress; Teva sandals.

Research the cultural expectations at the places you plan to visit and pack accordingly. A light scarf or shawl is useful on many occasions, for covering up, keeping the sun off or adding another layer of warmth in air conditioning.

In general, the key is to choose versatile items that mix and match well. Choose layering separates in comfortable, breathable fabrics that work for daywear, smart casual and evening chic.

L-R: Macpac jacket; New Balance sneakers; Karen Walker sunglasses; Hublot watch; Allbirds sneakers; Lorna Jane top and shorts; Los Angeles Dodgers hat; Lululemon bag.

Getting active

Clothing with zips and pockets or a small bag to carry your ship ID and phone, and non-slip casual shoes in case the deck is wet are essential.

Fitness facilities are a great place to get in some exercise, don’t forget a supportive pair of walking shoes or sneakers and a light rain jacket for excursions too.

L-R: Victoria Beckham dress; Johanna Ortiz dress;  Dior backpack, Alemais bracelet; Dolce & Gabanna sunglasses; Eres swimsuit; Lancôme Hydra Zen Gel Cream; But’s Bees Lip Balm; Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF50+ Matte Sunscreen.

Beauty on Board

Most ships have indulgent spa services that are not to be missed but ensure you book ahead of time.

Moving between indoor and outdoor spaces, or very hot or cold climates can leave skin depleted, so remember to be vigilant with a hydrating moisturiser and lip balm. If skin feels very dry, a rich moisturiser will create a barrier to protect skin from the elements.

Sunscreen is also a must-have, apply liberally before you leave your cabin each day.
