Fashion does love a Franken-trend. A hybrid style that brings two previous garments or trends together, or even better – adds a touch of comfort to a previously challenging wear. Think, skorts, jeggings and shackets – the list goes on.
Such is the case with the new hit shoe, the sneakerina.
Part sneaker, part ballerina flat, the style brings together the comfort of a rubberised sole with the elegance of a slim, round toe shoe traditionally made for dance. Sometimes the lean shoes even feature ribbon ties or mary-jane style elasticised straps atop the foot, akin to a real ballet slipper.
The style has been bubbling under over the past year but is now sneaking its way into the main stream, so expect to see them everywhere this season.
It’s part of a new wave of streamlined shoes that are a natural evolution from the popularity of the low-profile trainer trend that started with the Adidas Samba, and just grew and grew.
Another offshoot of the sneakerina to know right now is the leather jazz shoe, reworked for the fashion crowd. The supple leather flats are being embraced by style enthusiasts everywhere, worn with cuffed shorts, tailored trousers or wide-leg jeans and a simple button-up or tee.
They’re enough to make you kick-ball-change off into the sunset in your very-own pair.
