In the film, Dame Emma Thompson plays the ruthless headmistress Miss Trunchbull, joining the likes of Alisha Weir, Lashana Lynch and Stephen Graham in the highly-anticipated release.
A first-look of Thompson in character as the terrifying Miss Trunchbull can be seen in the musical’s official trailer just released by Netflix.
The film is an adaptation of the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical based on Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book of the same name and is directed by Matthew Warchus.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical will be released in December 2022. It will have a big-screen debut in the UK and appear on the streaming giant Netflix elsewhere.
The trailer also offers a reveal of the film’s reworking of some of the songs from the Matilda Musical, with original music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and choreography by Ellen Kane.
