Watch: New Zealand Police release hilarious new recruitment video

New Zealand Police have just released another big-budget recruitment video, with hopes the humorous three-minute Q&A can replicate the success of last year’s viral offering.

It features some of their most promising recruits as well as some special guest appearances from Wellington Paranormal’s Minogue and O’Leary, actor Oscar Kightley and comedian David Correos.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush said potential recruits always had a lot of questions and the “Breaking News” video aimed to help answer them in a “fun, creative and accessible way”.

The Commissioner says police need to attract more staff, particularly more women, Māori, Pacific Islanders and Asians.

“A common thing we hear from people considering joining police is that they have a lot of questions and they want to put these to some of our staff,” he says.

“We’re confident (the new ad) will mean more people sign up to join our fantastic organisation.”

Police have simultaneously released a new web platform, called ChatCops, dedicated to answering additional questions the public might have about the recruitment process.

Police estimate the 2017 video – seen by some 14 million people – resulted in about 2500 extra applicants last year, which will result in 200 to 300 additional constabulary employees. Some of them are still working through the recruitment process, police said.
