A quarter of a million dollars might seem like a lot for a car. But it could be a steal when you consider that pairs of Nike shoes sharing the same designer have gone for far more at auction.
Mercedes’ Maybach-badged ultra-luxury cars are rare are in any case, but for some extra exclusivity, would-be buyers might like to check out the latest limited-edition Maybach S680, created with the help of influential fashion guru Virgil Abloh.
For those unfamiliar with the maestro, Abloh was an American fashion designer, architect and entrepreneur. He was also the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection beginning in 2018. He died in November last year.
Abloh pieces have become prized possessions in the fashion scene, particularly after the designer’s death, and a series of Nike shoes designed by him fetched a total of 25 million dollars at auction in February.
For starters, the Maybach Abloh has an engine with 621 horsepower, but more noticeable is its unique two-tone colour combination, with a glossy black upper portion and sand-coloured paint below.
Inside, the two-tone colour scheme continues with lots of black and sand Nappa leather, high-pile floor mats, embroidery and trim.
Attention to detail includes logos all over the place and even a custom-made wooden box covered in leather. It contains a 1/18 scale replica of the car.
The Maybach is only available through selected outlets and prices are expected to start at around $215,000. With the customary extras, the car will undoubtedly be even more expensive to buy.
