These identical 82-guest vessels are the latest additions to Viking’s award-winning fleet, designed specifically for the iconic Nile and Viking’s popular 12-day “Pharaohs & Pyramids” itinerary.
The naming event took place at Viking’s exclusive docking location in Luxor, with an elegant celebration followed by a memorable dinner in the historic Karnak Temple. Among the ceremony’s highlights was the attendance of The Hon. Edward Herbert, godfather of the Viking Hathor, whose family has historical ties to Egypt through his great-great-grandfather, the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, co-discoverer of King Tutankhamen’s tomb.
In a nod to Viking’s commitment to blending cultural exploration with luxury, McHugh was impressed by the vessels’ thoughtful Scandinavian design, offering spacious staterooms, the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, and panoramic views of Egypt’s breathtaking landscapes. Viking’s growth in Egypt, bolstered by partnerships with local leaders like Mohamed El Banna, ensures seamless travel experiences, emphasising heritage and comfort.
As McHugh noted, Viking’s fleet expansion highlights the enduring allure of the Nile, with more travellers drawn to experience Egypt’s history and iconic sites. For guests, the journey combines ancient wonders with modern elegance, from visits to Giza and Saqqara to exclusive pre- and post-cruise tours, adding rich layers of history and discovery to each voyage.
