In further confirmation of red and copper dominating hair trends, a vibrant red named ‘Cherry Pop’ has been named 2023’s Colour of the Year.
That’s according to hair colour and care brand Goldwell, that annually selects a hue that encompasses the hottest trend of the moment.
The brand collaborates with global trend agencies and color trend experts to select the hero colour, having previously heralded the candy floss hair moment of 2022 with a soft pink hair look it dubbed ‘Bubblegum’.
Describing Cherry Pop as a ‘deep, rich warm red, both fiery and flirty,’ the brand says the hue is ‘dynamic and digital ready’, hinting at the way the metaverse is already informing trends in real life as well as vice versa.
Goldwell suggests Cherry Pop looks vibrant on pre-lightened or lightest blonde tones, but also gives a rich, warm cherry tone to dark blondes and brunettes.
“The vibrancy of Cherry Pop creates a visual vibration that ignites and excites the senses,” says Jane Boddy, Global Color Expert. “No color can compete with red for its powerful mood enhancing qualities.”
Angelo Seminara, Goldwell’s Global Ambassador who created the Cherry Pop look, says the particular shade is ‘full of exciting possibilities’ given red is associated with prosperity and good fortune.
