COMO Hotels and Resorts opened its first Australia location, COMO The Treasury, in Perth in 2015.
After a decade wait, a second location in the country has just been announced, with COMO to open a stylish new outpost on St Kilda Road in south Melbourne.
The new hotel will occupy the first nine levels of the $300 million development The Carter Building, the rest housing 54 private residences. With building already underway, the hotel is expected to open in early 2028.

“Melbourne is a city celebrated for its design, food and culture, making it the ideal destination for COMO Hotels and Resorts,” said Olivier Jolivet, CEO of COMO.
“We look forward to bringing COMO’s signature hospitality, culinary innovation and holistic approach to wellbeing to the city through this landmark development.”
Known for its elegant, design-focused interiors, first-class cuisine and premium wellness focus, the 102-room hotel will extend that reputation. There will be a number of custom-designed suites, a function room, state-of-the-art fitness centre and 20m indoor lap pool, as well as an expansive COMO Shambhala wellness center and spa.

The latter is a defining element of COMO’s 18 hotels, resorts and private islands worldwide. Its respected COMO Shambhala spa offering remains a pillar of COMO’s modern approach to achieving balance and rejuvenation within busy lifestyles.
The hotel new Melbourne hotel has been designed KHA (Kerry Hill Architects), the same company that was responsible for Perth’s COMO The Treasury. While focus is on creating a similar, sanctuary-like space with elements of understated luxury, Melbourne’s personality has also been embraced in many aspects.

In particular, the building’s bluestone facade pays homage to Melbourne’s architectural heritage, while a new restaurant will deliver a spin on the city’s dining scene with a seasonal, nutrition-rich menu.
Created by founder-owner Christina Ong and headquartered in Singapore, COMO has established respected locations around the world, including COMO Castello Del Nero, a 12th Century estate in the Tuscan countryside, wellness resort COMO Shambala Estate in the jungle of Ubud, Bali, and COMO Le Beauvallon, set above the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, which is set to debut in Spring 2026.
