US President Donald Trump’s efforts to ban transgender people from the military have failed. Federal Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly has blocked the presidential memo Trump wrote in August which attempted to overturn the Obama administration’s policy allowing transgender military personal to serve openly, BCC reports.
The policy was meant to come into place in July, but the military delayed the process by 6 months.
Judge Kollar-Kotelly has overruled the memo, enabling transgender military members to serve openly. She said Trump’s reasons for the ban “do not appear to be supported by any facts” and were guided by discrimination rather than military productivity.
