The Hawke’s Bay Winter Food and Wine Classic (F.A.W.C!) sees the sunny region come alive with more than 45 events over four weekends in June – from daring chef collabs, to fascinating workshops, to indulgent feasts. We round up our top picks from the festival.
Foodie Film Festival
Food and film fanatics are in for a treat with a series of special film screenings during the Winter F.A.W.C!. Napier’s MTG will be hosting the Foodie Film Festival, with five films including Ants of a Shrimp, a documentary which follows the acclaimed Noma team as they relocate to Tokyo.
Taco Nouveau
If you’ve missed out on some of the sell-out events, then Taco Nouveau is a fantastic one to try. The walk-up event sees Decibel Wines and Fork & Noise teaming up for a night of flavoursome dishes (like slow-roasted pork belly with ajo blanco or jerk chicken with corn mozzarella hash), bold wines and live entertainment. Taco Nouveau takes place on Friday 3 June and 10 June.
Truffle Heaven

‘Tis the season for truffle-hunting and the Winter F.A.W.C! is hosting an incredible series of truffle events once again. Join Truffle Heaven, taking place at the luxurious lodge, The Manse on 18th-19th and 25th-26th, and go hunting for truffles on the stunning estate before enjoying a decadent four-course lunch inspired by the prized ingredient, hosted by chef Gary Grootelaar.
Soufra – A Middle Eastern Feast
Soufra – A Middle Eastern Feast – translating to ‘long table filled with many good things to eat’ – takes place at Cone & Flower on Friday 25 June and will delight guests with sharing plates bursting with flavour and aromas. Tickets include sharing plates, drinks and dessert.
Fondue Lounge
Indulge in all things cheesy at the Fondue Lounge each Sunday throughout June. The event sees The Urban Winery transformed into a fondue haven, with assorted breads, meats and veggies ready for dunking.
The Grand Master of CRU
Embark on an exploration of fine wine with Master of Wine, Steve Smith, who will be showcasing soon-to-be-released wines from Smith and Sheth Grand CRU. Taking place on Sunday 12 June, the event features tasting flights, delectable bites and plenty of good conversation on all things wine.
