Tried & Tested: Cleansers

By Milly Nolan

Essential for ridding the skin of make-up, dirt, oil and other impurities, cleansers should be a part of your daily skincare routine, both day and night. Beauty editor, Milly Nolan, puts
six cleansers to the test, MiNDFOOD reports.

CLARINS

Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs, $49.

This creamy cleansing milk is most effective when warmed in your hands, held on your face with flat palms for several seconds, then lifted off briskly. When repeated five or six times, the milk thickens and creates a suction effect that gently lifts off make-up and impurities without irritating or pulling your skin.

YVES SAINT LAURENT

Cleansing Milky Veil
Radiance Revealer, $69.

More of a fluid than a cream, this cleanser is enriched with aloe sap, which hydrates skin, and the bark extract of Enantia chlorantha (a tree native to Africa), which helps tighten pores. Once rinsed off, your skin feels smoother and looks more radiant. Best for normal or combination skin.

LA MER

The Cleansing Lotion, $175.

Well worth the high price point, this cleanser is formulated with magnetised tourmaline– a natural gemstone that acts like a magnet to pull out impurities from the skin without stripping its natural moisture. It rinses off to leave skin feeling squeaky clean, soothed, soft and supple. The botanical smell is lovely, also.

L’ORÉAL PARIS

Revitalift Rejuvenating Cleansing Rich Make-up Removing Milk, $18.

Designed to rejuvenate maturing skin and help combat the signs of ageing, this rich and creamy cleanser leaves skin feeling clean and revitalised. Enriched with a powerful exfoliator, it easily removes even the most stubborn eye make-up. As you massage the milk into the skin, the pleasant aroma becomes stronger, giving it an uplifting effect.

NIVEA

Gentle Cleansing
Cream Wash, $10.

Especially good for dry and sensitive skin, this ultra-hydrating formula gently cleanses the skin and removes all traces of dirt without stripping precious moisture from your skin. After using this cream wash skin will be left feeling soft, hydrated and supple. If you prefer unscented skincare, however, you may find the floral scent is a little too over-powering.

OLAY

Regenerist Revitalizing
Cream Cleanser, $17.

As much an exfoliant as it is a cleanser, it contains small grainy beads that gently remove dead skin cells, as well as cleaning skin of oil, dirt and make-up. The amino-peptide complex in the formula promotes the natural regeneration of skin surface cells, so skin is left more hydrated and younger looking. For best results, use in conjunction with Olay Regenerist Micro- Sculpting Cream ($50).
