Tom Hardy takes on new role: A fragrance lover

By MiNDFOOD

Tom Hardy For Jo Malone London
Rugged movie star Tom Hardy's latest role is less dramatic face-offs and stunts and more a gentle discussion of the notes in a perfume.

That’s because Hardy has just been announced as the newest face of fragrance house Jo Malone London.

The British film star has teamed up with the Estée Lauder-owned perfume brand to shine a light on its Cypress & Grapevine Cologne Intense.

The fresh and woody fragrance, created by perfumer Sophie Labbe, has been in the British brand’s scent stable since 2020. Like each of the brand’s fragrances, it is designed to be a gender neutral fragrance to be worn by anyone. However, the signing of Hardy is clearly a sign the brand is making a play for more of the men’s fragrance market.

The announcement is accompanied by a film clip called where London-born Hardy speaks to a love of the city, its colourful characters and its ‘opposites that attract,’ hinting at the similar contrasts within the fragrance. Edward Berger, director of 2022’s All Quiet on The Western Front, worked with Hardy and his father Chips to create the ad.

The cologne is a woody, aromatic blend that combines notes of cypress trees with the warmth of grapevine and the sensuality of amber.

‘To me, Cypress & Grapevine Cologne Intense is a wonderfully classic vintage and earthy scent,’ Hardy shared in a statement announcing the ambassador role.

‘What started as a shared connection and passion over similar philanthropic pursuits has since evolved into a wonderfully rewarding creative partnership, rooted in a shared commitment to making a long-term positive impact, he says.

“It was a wonderful experience to work alongside such a brilliant team, helping to create a film that not only challenged us to visualise fragrance in new ways but was also evocative of the London we love — a city that embodies the exceptional and the contradictory in all its brilliance.”

Hardy has become famous for his screen presence appearing in a variety of roles across film, television, and even theater. He’s known for roles including Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises,” Max Rockatansky in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Eames in “Inception,” and his portrayal of both Kray twins in “Legend.”

He will next be seen in Venom: The Last Dance, the third in a trilogy of movies on Marvel character Venom, expected to be released in October.
