Dainty sandals and minimalist flats are all very well, but nothing can beat the chic appeal, warmth and polish of a great boot in winter.
Though tough heavy-soled and moto-inspired boots are still around, this season more elevated, fashion-led boots are leading the trend pack.
Pointed-toe styles are the most-wanted look cropping up everywhere. They run the gamut from the likely transient trends like kitten-heeled boots, to more evergreen styles, like classic black knee-high pairs.
Bad luck for anyone with weak ankles, for a spindly heel is definitely dominant. If you’re after something more substantial, cowboy boots are still an option.
Texture offers another way to play with the look, particularly in patent shine, animal print, snake and croc effect finishes. It’s not all basic black either, in fact, neutrals, earth-tones and chocolate brown are popular options, as is a rich maroon hue.
All styles are more versatile in the wardrobe than they used to be, as they can be styled with long and short skirts and dresses, as well as the currently popular tailored and wide-leg pants and slouchy denim.

Here we share three key trends to buy into for winter 2025:
Pointed-toe heeled boots
The recipe for a winning winter boot right now can hit the ankle or extend all the way up to the knee cap, but it’s nothing without a sharp pointed-toe. It’s a more lady-like departure from clunky square toes, but if the shape seems a touch too-severe, pair with a softer silhouette like a floaty, boho-inspired dress.

Animal print
The perfect statement to add to minimalist looks and modern tailoring, snake-print boots are surprisingly neutral in colour, so they work with plenty of outfits. They look just as good with black, white or caramel garments and accessories. Another upside? They’ll still look great paired with spring and summer dresses when the weather gets warmer.

Low-heeled ankle boots
The slightly more edgy addition to the winter boot rotation, low and kitten-heeled styles are a popular choice for pairing with pants or jeans. They have a nonchalance that can’t be beat, and work with everything from very dressy to very casual ensembles.
