This hair look just took out a top award and is the perfect autumn inspiration

In the mood for a hair update? There’s no better place to take inspiration than in the work of the country’s leading hair stylists.

Some of the stars of New Zealand’s hairdressing world have just seen their latest work showcased in a major professional awards competition.

The L’Oreal Style & Colour Trophy gives hair stylists and colour experts the opportunity to create a look that showcases exceptional technique and forward-focussed trend ideas that are judged by a team of fellow industry professionals. Local versions of the awards are held around the world and New Zealand’s trophy for 2022 has just been announced.

Due to the pandemic the awards ceremony was held via online presentation this year, with finalists looks being displayed before the winners were announced via a live stream.

This year’s theme was focussed on the French balayage technique where colour is hand paint the colour into the lengths of hair with sweeping strokes to give a seamless, glossy and natural finish.

Wellington’s Mathias Te Moananui of Buoy Salon was named the National Grand Winner, with a look (above) Te Moananui says was “inspired by the sands of the Sahara at dusk.”

In second place was Auckland’s Zoe Clark of Inco Studio with the balayage technique shown on a model with tumbling, extra long waves with a touch of warmth through the ends for a chic, modern update.
