Blue in fashion isn’t exactly ground-breaking.
The easily palatable colour comes in lots of inoffensive shades and turns up often in collections for both summer and winter.
So while it’s definitely dominant, there’s no surprise that one version is popping up again and again. This season’s most influential colour is a lovely, refreshing colour – not baby blue and not quite periwinkle, but somewhere in between. Some iterations are cornflower, while others lean more aqua.
The spectrum of icy, cool-toned blues appear across a lot of garments from Australian and New Zealand designers landing right now.
One particular blue has even just been pinpointed as one of the trending colours of New York Fashion Week. The US industry event on right now showcases fashion collections that won’t be available until September, which tells us this spectrum of shades is sticking around at least until the end of the year.
Get ready to deliver your favourite Devil Wears Prada monologue, because that colour, selected by colour experts Pantone to be influential at NYFW, is suspiciously close to cerulean. Called ‘All Aboard,’ the colour is described as a ‘vibrant maritime blue reminiscent of sky and sea.’ Lovely!
We rather like the name Viktoria and Woods gives their similar colour: ‘Beachglass’.
We’re keeping our eyes peeled to see whether Pantone had its NYFW predictions on the money but in the meantime, we stand by our own predictions and by our local designers, who clearly had their own trend forecasts finely tuned to be well ahead of the crowd.
It’s a surprising colour for autumn winter collections, but an uplifting one. The visual breath of fresh air is a welcome break from other more muted tones like mustard and olive that are also popular.
