These celebrities have made million-dollar donations amid the coronavirus pandemic
There’s a growing list of celebrities making massive donations in the battle against COVID-19.

Rihanna

The singer, beauty mogul and philanthropist has donated $5 million through her Clara Lionel Foundation.

The large donation will support “local food banks serving at-risk communities and the elderly in the United States” and provide resources for affected communities, among other goals.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively

The couple has donated $1 million to be divided between Feeding America and Food Banks Canada.

While announcing the donation, Lively also reminded people to “stay connected”.

“Remember the lonely and isolated. FaceTime, Skype, make a video. Remember the love that can travel through all this. Communities are stepping up-shopping for the elderly, making lunches for children. We can all do something for one another, even if that’s simply staying home,” she said.

Ralph Lauren

The designer has announced that the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation will be donating $10 million towards coronavirus relief efforts.

“Now more than ever, supporting each other in this time of need has become our mission,” a statement from the Ralph Lauren brand read.

“As we face this global challenge together, the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation is committing $10 million to help our teams and communities around the world.”

Giorgio Armani

Fashion legend Giorgio Armani has donated about $1.4 million to hospitals in Milan and Rome in his home country of Italy, as well as to Italy’s civil protection agency.

“What worries me most is the health emergency that’s taking place, both in our country and all over the world,” Armani told Forbes.

“It’s too early to evaluate the long-term economic impact, which will surely be significant. But history teaches us that new opportunities are born from the deepest moments of crisis.”

Angelina Jolie

Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie has made a $1 million donation to provide meals for children from low-income families during the coronavirus pandemic.

The star donated to No Kid Hungry, a national campaign mobilising support to ensure kids who rely on school meals can still eat.

“As of this week, over a billion children are out of school worldwide because of closures linked to coronavirus. Many children depend on the care and nutrition they receive during school hours, including nearly 22 million children in America who rely on food support,” said Jolie in a statement.

“No Kid Hungry is making resolute efforts to reach as many of those children as possible.”

Roger Federer

Tennis great Roger Federer and his wife Mirka have pledged more than one million Swiss francs to help families affected by the coronavirus in his native Switzerland.

“We must help families in need quickly and unbureaucratically,” said Federer in a post to Instagram.

“Mirka and I have donated to a newly established emergency assistance fund for families in Switzerland.”

Responding to the donation, her doctor posted to Instagram: “I have never felt more blessed to be a doctor, as helping our brave ER and ICU workers feels just as gratifying as helping my own patients. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU Kylie Jenner. You are my hero. This generous donation will help save many precious lives. Our world is a better place with you in it. I love you so much.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Schwarzenegger has pledged $1 million to the Frontline Responders Fund, a crowdfunding page he co-founded to keep healthcare workers equipped with masks, gloves and other medical equipment.

“This is a simple way to protect our real action heroes on the frontlines in our hospitals, and I’m proud to be part of it,” he said.
