The year’s best perfumes awarded at the ‘Oscars’ of Fragrance

The year’s best perfumes have been lauded at the Fragrance Foundation Awards, an event known as the ‘Oscars’ of the fragrance industry.

For the first time in three years, the US Fragrance Foundation held its annual awards in-person in New York at the David H. Koch Theater, with hosts that included Naomi Watts, Tommy Hilfiger, Jason Wu, Mario Lopez, Fragrance Foundation president Linda Levy and chairman Jerry Vittoria.

Categories are voted on in three different ways: Fragrance Foundation members, an expert panel specific to certain categories, or consumers for the Consumer Choice Awards.

Among the awards handed out by the industry association annually is the Hall of Fame award for a perfume that has made an undeniable mark in the world of scent over the years, as well as a similar award for the creators that have made a significant impact over the years of their career.

This year Tom Ford’s opulent floral-spicy mix Black Orchid, first released in 2006, took out the Hall Of Fame honour while Dior’s long-time perfumer François Demachy was handed the lifetime achievement perfumer award.

Singer Billie Eilish, who had a significant hand in the overseeing of her perfume which launched in October last year in partnership with Parlux, took out two awards for her scent. The vanilla, amber and musk perfume, simply named ‘Eilish’ which the singer said at the time she based on her ’favourite smell in the world’ was awarded wins in both Fragrance of the Year, Popular and Consumer Choice, Women’s Popular of the Year categories.
