The Top 5 Trends For Improving Your Hair Health
Haircare is getting advanced, with innovation in products and approaches to deliver our strongest, healthiest-looking hair.

The dynamic beauty landscape can make us feel like we’re constantly playing catch-up when it comes to beauty trends, but it can offer exciting leaps in the results we can achieve, too.

This is certainly true with hair. In recent years there has been incredible focus on product innovation, seeing the emergence of the ‘skinification’of hair. This means treating our hair as well as we do our skin, using targeted ingredients to treat targeted concerns.

These are the top five trends for 2025, that are helping to address specific hair health challenges.

Scalp serums

We’ve been banging on about scalp care for the past couple of years, and the attention is only growing. Like we use a skin serum to target specific challenges unique to our complexion, this will be the year scalp serums become even more commonplace. Target treatments focus on the scalp’s microbiome and help exfoliate effectively, aiming to boost hair growth and density and the strength of each strand. To use, part hair, add a few drops and massage in with your fingertips.

These treatment products not only aim to tackle growing more resilient, thick and healthy hair and minimise shedding but balance any scalp skin issues. It means a new approach to dandruff, stepping away from using harsh, stripping shampoos to tackle the issue.

Rosemary hair extracts

Rosemary has been widely recognized for its potential benefits for hair health. The herb has been used medicinally dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans in 500 BC, with some evidence it has been used as a hair tonic for hundreds of years.

More recently, its popularity has risen again, with some research showing that rosemary oil may help with certain types of hair loss.

It’s properties have been said to help promote growth, improve scalp health, and enhance the overall appearance of your hair. While the reasons for hair loss can be varied, meaning it may not be relevant, there’s still no shortage of people willing to vouch for its benefits. Rosemary oil or extract is believed to improve blood circulation in the scalp. Better circulation helps deliver essential nutrients to hair follicles, promoting growth and preventing hair thinning.

Korea, a hotbed of cosmetic innovation, has also been influential in rosemary’s return, with a plethora of haircare products containing rosemary coming out of the region and inspiring other brands to get on board the trend.

Detoxifying treatments

With the increase in innovation, for some of use has included an increase in the hair products we use. Over time, products like shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and environmental pollutants can accumulate, leaving hair dull, lifeless, or heavy. The water we use to wash our hair can also have minerals that build up, causing hair damage over time or impacting coloured hair.

Hair clarifying and detoxifying treatments can help remove build up, toxins, impurities, and residue from hair and the scalp. Designed to use occasionally, for example once every week or two, they help refresh and restore the natural health of your hair and scalp.

They come in the form of detox shampoos as well as scalp scrubs and treatments.

New moisturising technology

Returning moisture to strands and helping them hold on to that moisture is a key aim, seen in the recent ‘glass hair’ movement. The trend sees the popularity of glossy, healthy-looking hair that shimmers with reflective ‘glass-like’ shine.

New hair products designed to achieve this luxurious result are using advanced formulations that deliver intense hydration to combat dryness and promote healthy-looking hair.

It can be achieved in a number of ways, from using hair masks with modern derivatives of rich plant-butters, to treatment hair oils and newer technology like liquid lamellar water treatment. Lamellar water is a fluid, water-weight conditioner and treatment in one, that works in seconds. The highly concentrated formulas contain high-viscosity molecules that easily move through strands so that less water is needed to rinse.

Improving thinning hair and boosting growth

As we gain more knowledge about the effects of diet, hormones and aging has on our hair, we are also finding ways to counteract changes such as thinning hair and hair loss. This brings a wave of new hair products aiming to help, and not just the classic, pharmaceutical style ones either.

No longer an outlier hair category, prestige brands like Augustinus Bader are getting in on the act, developing products, often serums and treatments, to help with these issues. With botanical-based clinically-proven formulas and even in-salon treatments they are making hair growth sexy.

Recent celebrity hair lines, like those from TYPEBEA from Rita Ora and Cécred from Beyonce have also included growth-boosting serums.
