Donald Trump likely hoped he would be centre of attention at the three balls held in his honour in Washington D.C. on Inauguration Night.
However his daughter Ivanka certainly turned plenty of heads in an elegant black and white lace-detailed ballgown.
Ivanka, 43, took to the stage with her husband, Jared Kushner, 44, to share a dance during the Liberty Ball on the night her father was ushered in to his new term as the President of the United States of America.
Worn with black opera gloves and a scooped necklace and earrings of large sparking diamonds, the strapless dress with a full skirt immediately called to mind elements of a look made famous by Oscar-winning actress Audrey Hepburn.
Turn’s out, it’s no coincidence.
The Givenchy Haute Couture dress she wore on the night is a recreation of a dress Hepburn wore in the 1954 film ‘Sabrina’ alongside co-stars Humphrey Bogart and William Holden.
Hepburn’s 1954 dress was also Givenchy, custom-made for the actor by her longtime collaborator, Hubert de Givenchy.
While it was somewhat surprising the President’s daughter did not choose an American designer to wear, apparently she had another reason to select the French fashion house.
In a statement, representatives confirmed Ivanka chose the dress as Hepburn has long served as ‘ personal inspiration’ for her.
According to the Daily Mail, Ivanka’s rep said that she was ‘honoured’ to wear the gown and ‘incredibly grateful for Arnault family and the Givenchy atelier for creating this masterpiece, capturing the original artistry and elegance with remarkable precision and craftsmanship.’
‘Audrey Hepburn has long been a personal inspiration to Ivanka,’ they said.
‘She views it as a great privilege to honour her legacy in this way, and is incredibly grateful to the team at Givenchy for bringing this moment to life.’
