The secret ingredient missing from your mulled wine
Try this twist of the classic mulled wine to add a delicious kick to your favourite winter beverage.

With winter almost upon us, its the perfect time to whip a batch of hot, spiced, and steaming mulled wine.

The basics of mulled wine are fairly simple; a dry red wine, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise.

But if you’re looking to add a little flair to your mulled wine recipe, consider adding a dash of rum to the mix. A splash of  Spiced Rum can give your mulled wine a little kick and earthy aftertaste.

And if you fancy yourself a rum connoisseur, why not try a mulled-wine inspired Squid Bite? This is a Kraken Black Spiced Rum take on the iconic winter beverage. Combine 30ml of rum with 90ml of warm apple cider. Build it in a mute and serve garnished with a cinnamon stick.

If you want that extra taste of warm comfort, try a Hot Buttered Rum, with flavours of maple syrup, butter, cinnamon and apple juice. Get the recipe here.

The folks at Kraken have also shared of their expert tips for making the perfect rum cocktails.

Spiced rum can be used in any of your classic rum cocktails – think a Black Mojito for a super tasty and refreshing twist; or even mix up your Espresso Martini game by subbing Spiced Rum in for the vodka.

When it comes to food pairings, rum is perfect with desserts like chocolate cake and rich dishes, like beef short ribs.
