We understand if you don’t believe the terms ‘eyeliner’ and ‘quick’ are compatible.
We too, have spent hours eyeballing the mirror, inching along our lash line with a pencil, gel or liquid liner, trying desperately to achieve a smooth, even finish. Adding the ‘effortless’ outer cat-eye flicks? Turns out not so effortless after all.
But that was then, and this is now. Eyeliner is seriously trending for sure, and bold, expressive eyeliner at that. But it’s really all about a straightforward splash of colour. An even uniform application is great, but the look requires less meticulous application than before.
Liner formulations to create the look have also been updated. Soft, high-pigment pencils are easier to skim softly along the lash line.
Also helping you on the speed front is the fact the rest of the look tends to be minimal. All you need to accompany a bold liner? Just fresh glowy skin, mascara and a clear or tinted balm on the lips.
Dior again cemented eyeliner as an essential, using a bold the ‘under-liner’ approach at its Haute Couture Spring-Summer show in Paris (as seen above). It’s something makeup artist Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, also used in the French luxury house’s previous Couture show.
Then it was midnight blue hue, but this time around he chose a vivid line of pure white liner applied under the eye to and extended at the inner and outer corners to emphasize the eyes. Philips used the Diorshow Onstage Liner in Pure White, increasing the texture by topping with Diorshow Kohl pencil in 009 White Kohl.
For a more more playful and joyful take, coloured liners in unexpected hues of lavender, baby blue and canary yellow, similar to those in the MECCA MAX Zoom Liner range are skyrocketing in popularity.
