The world’s first oil painted animated feature film, Loving Vincent, is on track to be realised by Oscar winning producer Hugh Welchman (‘Peter and the Wolf’) and Polish painter and director Dorota Kobiela.

The film is about the life and death of Dutch post-Impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh, a highly productive and troubled painter whose work has influenced the modern art movements of the 20th century and beyond. The painter had a full life of travel and battles with mental illness. He chronicled his life in over 800 letters, which the film is based on. He died prematurely at the age of 37 from an untreated gunshot wound leaving behind a prolific collection of works.

The team working on the film are using the techniques and style of painting unique to Van Gogh to illustrate his life story.

The team consisting of filmmakers, actors and painters are using moving images and reanimating them in Van Gogh’s style frame by frame. The film will also feature over 120 of his works.
