The most influential beauty looks from the Oscars
If there’s one beauty takeaway to note from the Oscars red (well, champagne-coloured) carpet, it’s that there is no middle ground when it comes to hair.

After years of more casual celebrity event dressing and beauty looks, this year’s event was all about a more dramatic look. In particular that meant sparkly or voluminous dresses and slick, sometimes sculptural hair looks, to complement them.

The most edgy approach was Florence Pugh’s flipped waterfall bun adorned with a velvet ribbon, and the most classic? Sofia Carson’s Audrey Hepburn-esque hair look that featured an elegant, deeply parted style that perfectly showed off an eye-popping emerald and diamond Chopard necklace.

However if you weren’t doing a tight and snatched updo, the look du jour was letting long locks flow free, albeit beautifully blow-waved smooth à la Nicole Kidman, Jessica Chastain, Michelle Yeoh, Zoe Saldana and Ana de Armas.

For makeup one commonly-embraced approach was a understated pinky shimmer on the eyelids, finished with a defining sweep of liquid liner, lashes and a pinky-nude matte lip.
