The most exciting new beauty arrivals in January 2021

The new year has ushered in a load of exciting new beauty arrivals.

Dior’s new Cica Recover Balm, $95 uses Centella Asiatica, a herb famed for quickly repairing and strengthening skin as well as camomile and other botanical extracts to soothe and limit water loss. Fragrance free and formulated to be very close to the skin’s natural PH, it’s the perfect do-it-all balm to have on hand over summer for cuts, bites, grazes, sunburn and very dry skin.

The bold red bottle is a huge departure from Jo Malone’s usual cream and black aesthetic palette, but it’s fair to say the scent inside is too. Jo Malone’s Scarlett Poppy Cologne Intense, $297 comes off more of a soft warm gourmand that anything overwhelmingly floral with initial elements of Fig and tonka bean giving way to soft barley and poppy.

Pure Fiji has made great skincare strides in recent months, shoring up its beloved body range infused with the island’s best botanical ingredients, with some equally worthy additions to your face routine. The newest arrivals hero brightening Vitamin C and antioxidant-rich Kakadu Plum to deliver more resilient, radiant skin. The Brightening Serum, $105, has the most divine gel serum consistency and disappears quickly into skin leaving it beautifully hydrated making it easy to apply makeup over the top.

Particulate matter is known to cause free-radical damage that can weaken the skin’s barrier, triggering inflammation, pigmentation and clog pores. Environ’s Anti-Pollution Spritz, $75, provides a lightweight invisible shield loaded with antioxidants for protection and can be applied over makeup throughout the day.

Radiant, dewy, hydrated skin will be major in 2021, and one of the best new releases to meet the trend is Urban Decay’s Stay Naked Hydromaniac Tinted Glow Hydrator, $53. A great example of a hybrid makeup/skincare item, it gives skin a decent dose of moisture, is easily applied with fingers and has medium blendable coverage.

While the skincare for the face has hogged the limelight for far too long, it’s like someone just remembered the rest of our body deserves as effective and considered care. Dr Dennis Gross’ new Alpha Beta Exfoliating Body Treatment,$102 for 8, comes as a pre-soaked towelette that quickly nixes dry skin, adds moisture and makes the perfect prep prior to applying fake tan.

Bondi Sands has introduced an entire new line with a focus on sustainable, recyclable packaging made from post-consumer plastics, easy-to understand ingredients with a skin-health focus and new application options as well. The Self Tanning Sleep Mask, $26.99, is a rich, deeply nourishing cream that can be applied before you sleep as your night cream and is even suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Bobbi Brown’s famous Vitamin Enriched Face Base cream has long been known as the perfect moisturiser to use pre-foundation to make sure your skin stays hydrated and keeps your makeup looking fresh for hours. Now there’s a dedicated version just for the eye area – Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Eye base, $95 – that plumps out fine lines so makeup wont settle in them and holds onto concealer so it won’t slide around or disappear.

Actress Zoe Kravitz and face of French beauty house YSL has put her own spin on YSL’s iconic Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks, $76 each,  for a new mini collection inspired by the general vibe and sparkling lights of her four favourite cities: London, Paris, New York City, and Los Angeles.
