The MiNDFOOD team recommends movies
We ask the MiNDFOOD team what films they’ve been watching this month.

KATHRYN CHUNG, Staff Writer

What’s the title of the film?

Evelyn (on Netflix)

How would you sum it up?

A documentary following three siblings as they go on a hiking trip around the UK, in remembrance of their brother who took his own life 13 years earlier.

What do you like about it? Why would you recommend it to someone?

It was such a moving portrayal of a family as they deal with the aftermath of suicide. The small, intimate conversations between the family members were heartfelt and honest. It also features some of the most beautiful landscapes around the UK. While the subject matter is heavy, there are some really uplifting moments that shine through (but remember to bring your tissues!)

Three words to describe it:

Intimate, moving, visually-stunning

LILLIAN McHUGH, Integration Director

What’s the title of the film?

The Gentlemen

How would you sum it up?

A clever action film that twists and turns, featuring a very amusing Hollywood cast, with a touch of classic British class

What do you like about it? Why would you recommend it to someone?

I would definitely recommend it. The film is funny and the cast carry the story with ease and humour. And who doesn’t love Lady Mary from Downton Abbey as a gangster’s wife!

Three words to describe it:

Easy to watch

ASHLEY WALLACE, Staff Writer

What’s the title of the film?

The Nightingale

How would you sum it up?

Hell-bent on seeking revenge on a British officer for acts of violence he committed against her family, Irish convict Clare navigates the Tasmanian wilderness with the help of Aboriginal tracker Billy.

What do you like about it? Why would you recommend it to someone?

This film is extremely violent and incredibly harrowing. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you can handle it, I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s an amazing piece of Australian cinema that had me gripped from start to finish. And the acting is brilliant, especially from Aisling Franciosi.

Three words to describe it:

Heavy, violent, thrilling

NYKKE COLEMAN, Art Director

What’s the title of the film?

Interstellar

How would you sum it up?

A thought-provoking outlook on our future and the potential to colonise another planet. With a little Matthew McConaughey good humour to make you smile. It will make your mind spin.

What do you like about it? Why would you recommend it to someone?

Despite its length, at almost 3 hours, it held my attention and fascination. It’s hard to describe to people but it’s worth your time, just make sure to have loads of popcorn to keep you going.

Three words to describe it:

Amusing, epic, outstanding
