However it hasn’t stopped Resonance Consultancy commissioning a report into the best cities in the world.
The report advises on real estate, tourism and economic development in 100 cities around the world with populations higher than one million. 25 factors are split into six categories, including diversity, weather, the number of parks and tourist attractions, and the number of social media hashtags and check-ins. For the first time this year in the 2021 ranking, the cities were also ranked on new criteria such as unemployment, the rate of COVID-19 infections (as of July) and income disparity.
And so, where did your city end up?
Surprisingly, number one on the list was London, England. A city that has been severely impacted by COVID-19 and currently in its second nationwide lockdown. The second, another surprise considering their response to the pandemic, was New York City.
- London, England
- New York City, United States of America
- Paris, France
- Moscow, Russia
- Tokyo, Japan
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates
- Singapore
- Barcelona, Spain
- Los Angeles, United States
- Madrid, Spain
Cool and confident Melbourne, checked in at 37th on the list. Bet by Sydney which sat at number 25 on the list. ‘Friendly, warm, young and rich, Sydney is a beauty with a growing line of suitors’ the report said. Brisbane (#70) and Perth (#89) also made it. As for Auckland, it made it onto the list at number 83. The city ranks #13 globally for Parks & Outdoors, with almost too many green spaces to count despite its diminutive size.
