Eight years after his tragic death, Alexander McQueen remains an iconic name in fashion. Now, a new documentary tracks the British designer’s rise and fall.
A new documentary on the legendary designer Alexander McQueen celebrates his radical genius, which made him one of the most iconic artists of the century.
Nicknamed the “hooligan” of British fashion for his close-cropped hair, trademark Doc Marten boots and shocking catwalk collections, McQueen rose from working-class teenage and trainee tailor to runway darling – all before the age of 30.
McQueen’s rags-to-riches story shows his unique vision, as much as his dogged determination. Through interviews with friends and family, the documentary celebrates his career after he graduated with a Master’s degree in fashion design from Central Saint Martins, from being appointed as the creative director of Givenchy in 1996, to the final years he dedicated to his eponymous label before his suicide at age 40 in 2010.
Mirroring the savage beauty, maverick originality and vivacity of his design, the new documentary McQUEEN is an intimate revelation of the icon’s own personal and professional world, both tortured and inspired.
Arriving in cinemas on September 6th, it’s a spectacular display not to miss.
