It’s hardly one of life’s biggest problems, but when necessity conflicts with beauty desires, it can be frustrating.
Case in point: the desire to wear makeup, but also the need to see, which for many of us, means wearing glasses.
If you regularly apply foundation to your skin, or you wear SPF (every day, like you should!) and you wear glasses, you’ll have experienced the annoyance of the nose pads slipping on skin. It happens with sunglasses, too.
One minute you’re happily going about your business, the next, glasses are slowly sliding down your nose.
Those little nose rests likely also disturb your makeup, leaving obvious marks or bare patches when you remove your glasses.
So what to do?
Check your fit
The first thing to do is check your fit. If your glasses are too loose, have them tightened, and adjust the nose pads if you can. Well-fitted frames are less likely to slide.
Prep well
Second, ensure your your skincare prep is on point, and wait a few minutes before applying your makeup for any moisturisers, serums or sunscreen to sink in.
Using an oil-control primer all over skin may also be a useful step to consider.

Use an eyeshadow primer
Then, the useful addition. Look for an eye primer, a product generally used to help anchor eyeshadow so it doesn’t crease. Most come with no pigment, or in a skin-coloured shade similar to concealer. The secret is that they can also be used to provide grip for your glasses as well, as most are matte and slip-free.
Apply a little to the sides of the bridge of your nose where your glasses usually sit, pressing on gently with a finger, and allow to dry.
Then, apply a long-wear foundation over the top as you would usually apply your base, and finish with a dusting of face powder.
Another option is to finish by spraying face with a makeup setting spray, like Urban Decay’s All-Nighter Setting spray. This helps keep makeup from wearing off and adds a little more grip.
The addition of eye primer should help keep glasses comfortably in place for longer.
Blot throughout the day
Keep blotting papers on hand to absorb oil from your nose and prevent your glasses from sliding. A quick touch-up with a mattifying powder can also help.
