The Foods You Didn’t Know Were Gluten-Free

The Foods You Didn’t Know Were Gluten-Free

Have you been cutting back on gluten without knowing?

The Foods You Didn’t Know Were Gluten-Free

Gluten-free food items do not contain any grains that have a gluten content, such as wheat, spelt, rye, oats and barley. Because of the lack of gluten, gluten-free foods often have a different texture or taste different. However, there are some foods that are gluten-free you may be eating on a regular basis.

Foods that are surprisingly gluten-free

  • Potato
  • Snickers
  • Macarons
  • Pavlova
  • Rice
  • Marshmallows
  • Proper Crisps
  • Corn

Unless you are gluten-free because of a dietary requirement, most nutritionists recommend eating a mixture of foods that both contain and exclude gluten. “A gluten-free diet can be nutritionally balanced, but it can tend to be a bit low in wholegrain fibres and B-group vitamins,” says senior nutritionist at Nutrition Australia, Aloysa Hourigan. She advises “people seek help from a dietitian to ensure a nutritional balance is reached. This is especially important for growing children.”

For anyone wanting to cut down on gluten, choosing foods that are naturally gluten free just makes sense. That’s much more powerful than alternatives that have been heavily processed or have weird ingredients to avoid gluten.
