The celebrity-approved new take on the messy bun that’s a hit at NYFW

The celebrity-approved new take on the messy bun that’s a hit at NYFW

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to setting trends. Her take on Balenciaga’s monochromatic ensembles that play with proportions have been particularly influential of late.

But it’s her hair and makeup switch-ups that can have an even more swift impact on the way the rest of the world approaches their own beauty routines.

Arguably created by her well-known ‘glam team’ that usually consists of makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic and hair stylist Chris Appleton, her memorable looks have far-reaching impact.

This year she transformed her usually-brunette locks to platinum blonde for the Met Gala where she donned Marilyn Monroe’s dress, and has worn her hair in numerous ways since, from a neat bun to waist-length mermaid locks.  That platinum moment has seen many of us reach for the Olaplex to achieve a similar hair colour transformation.

But it’s her latest go-to style that’s catching on like wildfire.

Appearing at Fendi’s NYFW presentation in a shimmering Fendi couture gown she displayed a relaxed new take on a bun that has social media talking.

The look involved her centre-parted hair, notably showing a good half-inch of dark roots,  pulled back into a partly looped bun. Her ponytail was pulled partially through her hair tie, with the ends left trailing free.

She also recently wore the new hairstyle at a launch for her sister Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics brand.

Playing hair ‘snap’ actress Shay Mitchell also turned up to the same Fendi show at NYFW with a very similar look, albeit with a slightly more sleek finish to her glossy locks.

The Pretty Little Liars star paired her boxy black Fendi jacket and mini with her long hair in a looped ponytail.

Mitchell’s hairstylist Danielle Priano shared a closer look at the style she created, that also included a gold chain detail placed along the center part.

In a case of three’s a trend, Stephanie Shepherd, Kim’s former assistant and now an influential social media star and environmental advocate in her own right, wore the same look to another NYFW event, the Jason Wu fashion show.

If nothing else, it’s providing a great solution for those of us trying to get another day out of our hair before we wash, particularly as summer arrives.
