Thankfully at this time of year Pinterest, the virtual pinboard site that describes itself as a ‘visual discovery engine’, analyses its data to predict what will have an impact in the coming year. It bases this data on usage trends and the fact that people generally use Pinterest to plan for the future. It covers fashion, beauty, food, health, pets, tech and more.
When it comes to beauty, the resulting annual Pinterest Predicts report is generally on the money, having predicted the rise of ‘ Skinimalism’, and ‘Indie beauty’ in it’s 2021 predictions and “rebel’ hair cuts like the shag and the mullet and crystal makeup embellishments for 2022 which definitely came to fruition.
So what’s new for 2023? According to the Pinterest Predicts report that has just been released, it’s all about small moves that have big impact, particularly when it comes to our hair.
It’s distilled a plethora of beauty approaches into three dominant trends:
Micro Makeover
Maximalist beauty has had its moment, as Pinterest says people are ready for a reset and a more subtle approach.
“From micro manis to barely-there bobs, this year’s beauty looks will be a cut above the rest. Millennials and Gen Z are trading in their long, coffin-shaped nails for mini French manis. They’ll opt for short braids and chopped bangs instead of long, luscious locks. In 2023, small beauty gets its big break. Farewell, so long.”

Gemini Hair
Get ready for a new wave of two-toned hair looks.
