The ‘almond-milk mani’ is trending: Here’s how to DIY

They’re calling it the ‘almond-milk manicure’. Summer’s top trend for tips and toes is an antidote to pop brights –  a glossy but translucent veil of colour that still reveals the natural tone of the nail and tip beneath.

The sheer, milky shades come in both a slightly warmer shade than cow’s milk, hence the name, as well as soft pink and nude shades that make hands look elegant and won’t show up chips, making it the ideal choice during the more relaxed summer season.

The see-through finish is worn with only one or two coats and finished with a shiny top-coat for a ‘barely-there’ look. The shades also look great on any shape or length nails, flatter every skin tone and work with every colour outfit – it’s a no brainer.

Morgan Taylor’s Nail Lacquer in Barely Buff, $17, is part of a bridal-perfect collection of understated shades that go in sheer but can be built up in colour.

Sally Hansen’s White Tea Sheer shade, $18, is part of the brand’s new plant-based, 10-free, 100% vegan nail polish collection.

From the same brand but among a separate nourishing range that contains Argan oil to strengthen and give natural moisture back to the nail plate is Sally Hansen’s Color Therapy Sheer polish in Bare Kiss, $18.

OPI’s Bubble Bath, $20, has been around forever but it’s a chic classic for a reason. The shade is a sheer peachy-nude that can be layered for a more opaque finish if desired.

Speaking of classic sheer shades, you can’t get much more revered than Essie’s Ballet Slippers, $18. It’s potentially the most famous polish in the category, having been worn by Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie on their wedding days, and reportedly is a favoured polish – the only one she’ll wear – of HRH herself, Queen Elizabeth.
