The New Zealand Ministry of Health explains the 6 most common symptoms of COVID-19. They are:
1. A new or worsening cough. Coronaviruses attack the respiratory system so a cough is a common symptom of COVID-19.
2. Fever. Like the flu, a fever is a common symptom of COVID-19. A high temperature is considered 38°C or above.
3. Shortness of breath. Shortness of breath is a sign of possible pneumonia and requires immediate medical attention.
4. Sore throat. While lesson common, a sore throat is one of the symptoms of COVID-19.
5. Runny nose. Sneezing and a runny nose have been linked to the novel coronavirus.
6. Loss of smell. Some people who have contracted COVID-19 has reported a temporary loss of smell.
How long does it take for the symptoms to show?
There are still some unknowns about how long it takes for the symptoms of COVID-19 to show, but the World Health Organisation suggests 2 – 10 days.
