The winners in the 2022 Aussie Town of the Year Awards have just been announced, offering local and international travellers fantastic destination inspiration across the country.
Compiled by travel site Wotif, the awards analyse the site’s data index that looks at accommodation affordability, quality and traveller satisfaction.
For the first time in the awards’ five-years, Tasmania has made the number one spot on the list. The town of Launceston impressed travellers with its fresh air, delicious culinary offerings and atmosphere of relaxation.
“Launceston’s fresh produce, renown sparkling wine and commitment to great food is world-famous and with some of Tasmania’s most spectacular natural landmarks just a short drive away, including the Tamar Valley, Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park and the Bay of Fire, it’s no surprise that demand for the city has grown by over 125% on Wotif.com,” says Wotif Managing Director Daniel Finch.
“Offering great affordability, with an average daily accommodation rate of $160 in 2021, several new hotels in the city and endless experiences on offer, a trip to Launceston is every bit worth the hype.”
The island state has seen a renewed interest in tourism of late, 21% of Aussies saying their desire to travel to Tasmania has grown in the last 12 months, according to Wotif’s research.
Towns in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales scored multiple spots on the list. Second place went to Caloundra, a coastal town in south east Queensland known for its beautiful surf, ocean pools and crystal-clear waterways.
Tamworth in New South Wales took home third place, a creative hub famous for its annual Tamworth Country Music Festival.
