Another thing Australia does well? Chilled-out, but stylish beachside dining reminiscent Sydney’s Coogee Pavilion.
The good news is, that’s about to change with the arrival of Takapuna Surf Club.
The new all-day eatery on a prime corner site in the heart of the Takapuna shopping strip, is the work of the hospitality team behind Queens Rooftop Bar, another thriving rooftop spot that has refreshed the city’s options for a great night out.

The idea of Takapuna Surf Club is a casual spot that welcomes all, but evolves slightly from the day to a more social site in the evening. In general though, with the sunny corner site with views over the shops to the Hauraki Gulf its a place where local office workers, families, and tradies alike can gather and unwind.
The large interior and balcony space has been thoughtfully designed Ctrl Space to have elements that hark back to traditional surf clubs – think bar leaners, dartboards and wooden tables, but a level of polish that befits the upmarket beach suburb.

Drawing locals in is an inviting menu curated by Chef Maia of Queens, with refreshed versions of prawns on ice, golden schnitzels, chicken parmigiana, and stacked subs. There are also wood-fired pizzas, cooked in an authentic Italian pizza oven.
For the younger members of the group there’s a kids area and cute bento-box style food options to ensure everyone wants to linger a little longer.
For those meeting friends and happy to claim a spot and settle in for the longer haul, DJs spinning vinyl for chilled Sunday sessions and upbeat Saturday nights helps with that too.
Takapuna Surf Club is open now at 111 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna, Auckland.
