Takapuna Beach Polo

Takapuna Beach Polo
Don't miss the Sport of Kings when it hits Takapuna Beach this December.

A New Zealand first is hitting shores this December with Takapuna Beach Polo. Typically played on grass fields in New Zealand, the Takapuna event will enable the public to experience a polo match in an accessible, summery environment.

Event Director Amy Calway of Event-Horizon says they hope to share the sport with a wider audience. “We are ultimately hoping that this will attract more people to the sport both in terms of grass roots players and spectators for other events such as the New Zealand Polo Open which is held in Clevedon in February,” she says.

A not-for-profit event that takes an exhibition-styled spin on the game, Takapuna Beach Polo adds another dynamic to the elite sport by introducing competitive female players to play alongside men. Calway says the event will be the first of a nationwide series. “This is definitely not a one-off and our team is passionate to share this exciting variation of the sport across the shores of New Zealand’s most popular beach destinations.”

Attendees can indulge in beachside-styled picnic hampers and choose from standard tickets or a VIP experience at the Takapuna Boating Club.

Takapuna Beach Polo runs from Thursday 14 and Friday 15 December. Visit beachpolo.co.nz for more information.
