Taika Waititi to write and direct new major Star Wars film

The much-loved Kiwi filmmaker has added a new Star Wars film to his growing list of Hollywood projects.
Taika Waititi has landed a major Hollywood project: co-writing and directing a new Star Wars movie.
The Kiwi filmmaker, who recently directed the last episode of the Star Wars show The Mandalorian, will direct co-write the film alongside 1917’s Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
Waititi took to Instagram to celebrate ‘Star Wars Day’ May the 4th and confirmed “the rumours are true”.
Not much is known about the project at this stage, though Disney has confirmed dates in December 2022, 2024 and 2026 for upcoming Star Wars projects.
In the meantime, Waititi is busy with a number of projects. He’s finishing up the football drama film Next Goal Wins and is getting ready for pre-production on Thor: Love and Thunder.
He was also recently announced as director for two Roald Dahl projects on Netflix and as as the Time Bandits TV series.
