The world's best beaches is a subjective topic. See if you agree with the latest list.

If you’re from New Zealand or Australia, you will likely view ‘world’s best beaches’ lists with a bit of skepticism.

That’s because we’re absolutely spoiled for choice with stunning spots that shine year-round, and everyone has a different favourite.

Our most famous sandy strips aren’t usually the ones locals would designate as the most desirable and beautiful to visit.

However, you can’t deny there’s also a hearty sense of pride that kicks in, seeing our nation’s beloved beaches highlighted among global hotspots (while secretly hoping they don’t get busier).

Regardless, we’re not ones to gatekeep now the latest list is here.

Based on analysis of millions of traveler reviews from the past 12 months on Tripadvisor, the new list has narrowed down the world’s most extraordinary coastal destinations.

The number one spot was claimed by Isla Pasion, a secluded Mexican island paradise in the Caribbean. Tripadvisor highlighted the private island oasis’ crystal-clear waters, marine life encounters, and exceptional snorkeling, saying the best time to go is between November and April.

Last year’s winner was Elafonissi Beach in Crete, Greece, this year taking second position.

As for those Aussie highlights, you’ll be relieved to know Sydney’s Manly Beach came in at number 9, and Bondi Beach at 19. The bustling city spots were highlighted for their golden sand and variety of surrounding drawcards like great dining options and walking paths.

Over the Tasman, New Zealand beaches were not featured in the main list, but one did get a special mention.

At NZ’s Hot Water Beach in Coromandel you can dig your own hot pool.

This year Tripadvisor has included a “One of a Kind” beaches selection, showcasing destinations with incredible features you won’t find anywhere else.

Coromandel’s Hot Water Beach came in at 10 on this list for its unique natural hot water springs found beneath the sand.

Within two hours either side of low tide, it is possible to dig into the new Zealand beach, allowing hot water to come to the surface, forming your own sandy hot water pool. The water, with a temperature as hot as 64 °C, filters up from two underground fissures located close to each other.

The ‘One of a Kind’ beach list was topped by Boulders Beach in South Africa that has its own penguin colony, also featured at #10 in the main list. Shell Beach in Denham, Australia came in at number 11 for its bright, white shoreline, made from bleached shells.
