Summer Scent: Arquiste Nanban

Summer Scent: Arquiste Nanban

Prepare your senses for an olfactory journey and a history lesson as boutique fragrance house Arquiste has just released a new fragrance, Nanban. Inspired by the voyage of a Japanese galleon across the Pacific Ocean in the 1600s, the heady woody-oriental scent contains notes of leather, frankincense, pepper and other exotic scents.

Speaking to MiNDFOOD Style Carlos Huber, founder of Arquiste, says Nanban is unlike anything the fragrance house ever created before. “It’s all of the amoires, trunks and barrels of incense, leather and exotic cargo that was being brought into Japan by this committee of samurais that had been sent to negotiate with the king of Spain,” says Huber.

While traditionally summer has been thought of as a season to switch out heavier fragrances for softer zesty scents, Huber believes wearing Nanban in summer is an intoxicating experience. “In summer the scent diffuses a lot and on skin it’s something else; it becomes this really captivating scent.”

Nanban is available exclusively at WORLD Beauty.
