A good knit is a winter essential to transform your outfit and ward off the chill. We pinpoint the knitwear trends to invest in for 2025.

While the minimalists are steadfast about the fact a refined aesthetic will always be in style, sometimes you just want to have a little fun.

Or, find comfort in the feeling of being wrapped in something so deliciously soft and warm, you forget that spring is months away.

We love the way knitwear has become a seasonal highlight of winter for fashion lovers. What once was (and still is), a fairly functional garment for adding essential warmth, the variety of styles and yarns now embraced means there’s no reason to stick to basics when it comes to wearing knits.

The beauty of well-made knitwear made from natural fibres like lambswool, merino and cashmere is that with a little care, it will remain in your wardrobe for years.

But which sweaters and cardigans should we be investing in for the season? The time is right to shop now, given temperatures are dropping and we need something to boost our spirits through the next few months.

Here’s our edit of the looks to love for winter 2025:

Argyle Patterns

Arch4; Zara; Ganni

Golf chic is having a moment! The famous Argyle pattern is appearing in fine knits and cardigans perfect for layering, from the high-end (think Bottega Veneta, Prada, Gant and Ganni) to stores your dad would frequent, where you may just find an unexpected gem.

Cable Knit

&DaughterShona Joy; R.M. Williams

A beautiful mix of classic and cool, a cable knit is an enduring style that is easy to find right now. Make it modern in a medium-sized cable, in a fresh neutral colourway like grey, cream or olive green.

Fitted Cardigans

Aje; Prada; Sandro

The shrunken cardigan is perhaps one of the most dominant knitwear trends this year, and has been widely embraced by brands from luxury labels to more affordable, trend-driven retailers. Slip on over a slim-fit t-shirt with jeans and flats for a chic weekend ensemble.

Scarf Sweaters

Zara; Toteme; Reformation

We’re not sure if this style will stick around but it’s a fun way to wrap up right now. The buzz for sweaters with attached, but removable, matching scarves was arguably started by Toteme and it’s fuzzy options reign supreme in our book. The idea is an easy way to ensure a simple, coordinated look while staying toasty warm.

Statement

Acne; The Elder Statesman; Ganni

The current favour for statement and graphic tees has evolved into knitwear, so there are plenty of intarsia knits with images and words woven into oversized knits as well as bold colour options to bring a lighthearted element to otherwise simple outfits.

Roll Neck

Camilla & Marc; A.Emery; The Row

An enduring style if you really need to ward off the chill, roll necks this season are paired with slouchy, oversized sweaters that work well with both tailored pants or jeans.

Stripes

Guest in Residence; Ruby ; Cos

If you really want to stay ahead of the style pack, a rugby-style jumper is the look to love right now. We are enamored by this one from Gigi Hadid’s knit label Guest in Residence, but there are an abundance of striped knits on offer right now whether you style is understated or bold.
