STYLE Edit: Woven flats are a hit pick for spring

The era of fashion flats is upon us.

A couple of years ago it seemed like the only flats in our wardrobes were white sneakers, or perhaps a pair of relaxed leather slides.

Stylish flat shoes were scarce, and certainly not driving any dominant trends.

What a difference a couple of years makes. Not only have we seen a sneaker evolution, where slimline trainers like Adidas’s popular Samba style have taken over, but we’ve also seen the return of fashion flats.

The elongated and slightly squared-off shape of Bared Footwear’s Surfbird Flats make them a more grown-up and elegant option than rounded ballet flats.

First it was the return of the ballet flat, then in quick succession it was mary-janes, fisherman’s sandals, then loafers. All of these styles are still hanging around for this spring and summer. Platform shoes are having another moment too, but if you want something that’s easy to get around in, the woven slip-on flat is everywhere this season.

We’re loving the way they’re easily styled with simple tailored linen vests and wide-leg pants, as well as denim and easy, wear-everywhere dresses in neutral colours like white, camel, sand or khaki.

Here are the best styles to shop now:

L-R:Deadly Ponies Flats; Le Monde Beryl Flats

L-R:Loeffler Randall Flats; Mi Piaci Flats

L-R: Country Road Flats; St. Agni Flats
