A little more than cream, a little less than lemon.

Is it just us, or is everyone ready for winter to be over already?

Perhaps it’s watching everyone jet off to the northern hemisphere’s sun, and the upbeat, playful and chic outfits that come with that, but we’re itching to dip our toes into the latest trends that are dominating for spring and summer right now.

It certainly helps that local New Zealand and Australian designers are feeding us with the goods, falling nicely in step with major fashion moves globally.

One we’re enamoured with? The predominance of buttercream yellow and other, softer lemon-sorbet twists on yellow than the previously favoured – and sometimes divisive – searing zesty brights.

The gentle buttery shades can easily be worn as a neutral of sorts, and pair well with lighter hues like white accessories, tan leather and black items.

We love that it’s an instantly mood-boosting shade, but not so in your face that you’ll quickly get sick of it. It’s cheerful, but not relentlessly so.

Here Down Under, we can currently wear all those soft fuzzy knits it’s turning up in, while shopping for the chic, fitted mini dresses that will be night-out essentials once the warmer weather rolls around.

L-R: Jacquemus; Jacquemus; Oroton; Molly Goddard; COS; Emilia Wickstead

Kiwi designer Wynn Hamlyn just dropped his pre-fall collection ‘Ephemeral Echoes,’ and helpfully, both aforementioned items are included. We’re picking the ruffled Sadie dress to be a wedding guest go-to, while Paris Georgia’s Remmy Mini dress is perfect for a night out where a dance-floor may or may not be involved.

Looking for something more casual? Camilla and Marc is making us want to slouch about in its new butter yellow matching tracksuit, and who can go past Ruby’s famous Matilda cardigan in butter with gold buttons?

Internationally Jacquemus has an absolute chokehold on the colour trend, though other designers are quickly following suit.
