Australian Interior Design Awards 2020 reveal the top hospitality designs.
Melbourne-based design firm Hassell and Surrey Hills-based practice Richards Stanisich have been named the joint recipients of the Award for Hospitality Design at 2020 Australian Interior Design Awards.
A bold yet inherently sustainable design that celebrates the theatricality of the dining experience, restaurant Di Stasio Citta by Hassell was lauded for its sense of art and drama.
Hassell’s Di Stasio Citta received a triple accolade, winning the Premier Award for Australian Interior Design, the award for Hospitality Design (jointly) and Best of State Commercial Design (Victoria).
The jury unanimously agree that the project gives the sense “a genuinely rigorous design process has taken place and the result is a strong conceptual offering that’s original, brave and highly impactful.” The longevity of the design and its international appeal is also noted.
The jury unanimously agreed Richards Stanisich design for Hotel Rose Bay, represents interior design of the absolute highest standard. It’s an incredibly sophisticated response to the renovation of an iconic 1929 pub and the designers have shown remarkable skill, while also fulfilling all programmatic requirements.
Significantly, there’s consideration of both the materiality and motifs relevant to the building’s history, which sees the original Art Deco style retained yet delivered in a completely fresh, modern way. Everything is exquisitely detailed, with a high commitment to craftsmanship, and the resulting continuity between spaces is strong.
