The world’s leading luxury and expedition cruise line, Silversea Cruises, has joined with acclaimed photographer Steve McCurry to chronicle Silversea’s extensive fleet and portfolio expansion.
Offering over 900 global destinations – more than any other cruiseline – Silversea takes passengers to remote, beautiful corners of the world to provide the ultimate luxury travel experience. The company’s new, purpose-built fleet enables travellers to access secluded ports and hidden waterways with an array of smaller vessels. “Silversea has launched the most ambitious fleet and product expansion in its history, with the goal of unlocking new territories for guests,” says Barbara Muckermann, Chief Marketing Officer at Silversea Cruises.
The idea to partner with Steve McCurry was natural. “McCurry’s artistry and storytelling align perfectly with Silversea’s immersive experiences, intimate vessels and unforgettable destinations,” Muckermann explains. “He has the ability to capture the authentic beauty of the world, and express it with passion and clarity.
McCurry, best known for his mesmerising portrait of a young Afghan refugee girl in the National Geographic, has spent four decades capturing the diverse cultures, landscapes and people of the world. His work has covered everything from the aftermath of 9/11 to the mountain gorillas of Virunga, earning his images a place in international magazines and major exhibitions. McCurry has won a number of awards for his sensitive images, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal for his coverage of the war in Afghanistan.
An expert of visual storytelling, McCurry believes there is still much more for him to capture. “There’s always room for discovery,” he says, describing the magic of travelling as “an urgent need to go and observe this world that we all share.” Working with Silversea, McCurry will share the extraordinary places and people encountered by the cruiseline’s new fleet.
Steve will travel to Istanbul, Sicily and Svalbard with Silversea later this year. “We look forward to capturing the emotion and inspiration of global travel through Steve’s lens,” says Muckermann.
