Shuk heads north

Bondi favourite SHUK expands with two new venues, taking their signature spin on Israeli/Middle Eastern cuisine into the communities of Chatswood and Elizabeth Bay.

After five successful years in Bondi and the addition of Shuk Bakery, owners Ariel Hefer, Erez Beker and Yonatan (Yoni) Kalfus began the search for the right venue to expand their relaxed offering. “Finding the perfect venue for SHUK to grow was more important than how quickly we could expand,” explains Kalfus. “We absolutely love our two new spaces and look forward to bringing the specialities that SHUK is known for to two new areas.”

The renovations will encompass the signature SHUK style with a refined twist. “We wanted there to be a familiarity between the venues, the single round table upon entry and the long share style tables seen in Bondi will feature in our new spaces.”

Located in the heart of Chatswood on Victoria Avenue, the 100-seat venue is the first to open on Monday December 10. The business crowds and weekend locals can expect an adapted version of the al fresco dining style of Bondi with breakfast and lunch daily and evening dining to come in the new year. The venue also boasts 40 outdoor seats offering the perfect mix of indoor/outdoor dining on the leafy suburban street.

Set to open in early January, the Elizabeth Bay café located on picturesque back street Roslyn Gardens, a short stroll from Rushcutters Bay and the bustling Potts Point. The 50-seat venue’s coveted sundrenched balcony is street level on the corner of the new Trebartha Apartments. The village feel of the final opening welcomes locals and the broader community alike to all day dining and a private dining room, a first for the SHUK group who are upping the ante offering diners a special space to host intimate events.

Head Chef, German Sanchez will continue to lead the team in the kitchen focusing on SHUK favourites such as Shakshuka, Teff pancakes, hummus with lamb and grilled haloumi salad. With the introduction of two new venues, the opportunity for Sanchez to develop and expand the menu focusing on specific clientele will be a new focus “SHUK is known for its Isreali/Middle Eastern classics, we want to hero these and continue to push the boundaries with new dishes,” says Sanchez, “we want each venue to have its own personality”.

SHUK Bakery will feature a selection of their signature daily baked bread and pastries including Challah, bagels, sourdough, muffins and more across both venues.

SHUK Chatswood and SHUK Elizabeth Bay will trade from 6am Monday – Sunday for breakfast and lunch, with evening dining to come from Thursday to Saturday from early January.
