Shiseido’s Future Solution LX collection gets a makeover

Do you recall your beauty cabinet of a decade ago? It’s a fair conclusion to make that the way we approach skincare in 2017 has changed dramatically. Shiseido product developer Saeko Suzuki agrees; when Shiseido launched its cutting-edge youth-restoring range Future Solution LX back in 2009, Suzuki says we were looking for a very different product.

“Almost 10 years have passed since the original launch and since then consumer awareness has really changed,” she says. No longer won over by products that promise to banish lines and wrinkles instantly, today we’re drawn to the promise of authenticity, Suzuki and her team at Shiseido believe. But it’s not just our attitude to beauty that has evolved: the science behind skincare has also progressed in leaps and bounds.

Inspired by our search for authentic beauty products and driven by advances in skincare science, Shiseido has relaunched the ultra-luxurious Future Solution LX collection. At the heart of the new range is an innovative new ingredient. Skingenecell Enmei: a tour de force regenerator that has taken the company three years to develop.

Inspired by the remarkable longevity of plant life, Shiseido foraged all over Japan to try and find the perfect plant extract for the new Future Solution LX collection, explains Shiseido researcher Eriko Kawai. “We finally found the enmei herb. It took years for us to research and discover its effectiveness and its ability to promote the expression of the skin’s longevity genes,” she says.

It’s paired with a host of powerful indigenous botanicals – green tea extract, Hokkaido angelica root extract and oshima sakura leaf extract – and Shiseido’s innovative Skingenecell 1P and Vitamin C Ethyl II, in Future Solution LX. Seven key products have been included in this reformulation – cleanser, softener, a protective emulsion and cream, regenerating cream, lip and eye cream and a serum. Together they restore radiance to skin, calm irritation and repair the signs of damage caused by external factors.

Due to our skin’s ability to repair itself at night, Kawai touts the night cream as the star of the range. “Skingenecell Enmei is blended in the night cream at its highest concentration to provide comprehensive and holistic skin benefits,” she says.

There’s serious science behind the collection, but both Suzuki and Kawai emphasise the importance of authenticity – a philosophy that’s been at the heart of Shiseido since 1872. Enmei has a significant historical footnote: it’s recorded that, in ancient Japanese times, the Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi offered a sick traveller an extract of enmei herb, which helped him recover.

“Functional benefit is our priority but we always think of the emotional benefit too. We want to develop products that women enjoy using and connect with,” says Kawai. With its luxurious textures, impressive skin benefits and a bewitching fragrance that takes your senses on a journey to Japan, the new Future Solution LX is destined to become part of our beauty ritual.

Future Solutions LX products start from $120 and are available at leading department stores and pharmacies

The best street style from Paris Fashion Week

If there’s one lesson to take from the Parisian street style rule book it’s that clashing colours and print is key to creating a show-stopping ensemble this season. Pops of sunshine yellow, citrusy orange and fire-engine red were teamed up with bold stripes, delicate embroidery and other block colours. Take a look at some of our favourite looks in the gallery below.
