Kilisitina Fehoko
Artist, Tonga
If you were to watch an angel being made – literally – you’d come away mightily impressed. Awestruck, in fact. And that’s what it’s like watching one of Tonga’s pre-eminent artists, Kilisitina Fehoko at work. She makes with practised ease miniature angels, using natural materials like palm nuts and tapa cloth and raffia fibres.
These are usually the figures that make up the charming nativity scenes that Fehoko sells so successfully through her business, Fehoko Art Studio in Nukuʻalofa, that she established with her husband, renowned sculptor, Steven.
They also run a successful arts tours business, which introduces visitors to the Kingdom to Tonga’s traditional art forms and handicrafts.
